Just keep on knockin' baby!

All right, here’s a ramble.  My brain is kind of numb today and I don’t know what to do with myself.   It’s been a slow couple weeks, but wait,  I can breathe – isn’t that nice?  Maybe, I dunno, sometimes I think I feel more secure when things are crazy insane busy, or maybe not crazy, just a little bit more steady.  The last audition I went on was for a Web Series called “It’s Always Smoggy in LA.”  That was a couple of weeks ago.  Last Friday I got called by the Producer/Writer would really like to put me in an episode but doesn’t know which one yet.  Hey that’s cool!!  I’m going to go join him and some … Continue reading

Heart's a Flutter. "Keep calm and carry on" as the Brits said in 1939.

12 days between blogs, not that bad but I’d like to update more often and share what’s going on.  I’m not sure how many actors or other folks have checked out my blog.  I really am hoping that some actors who are starting out or are somewhere else along their journey can get some useful tidbits about what it takes and what it’s like to be an actor in Los Angeles, at least from my point of view and my journey.  I have to say again that It’s been a wonderful start to 2010 and that I’m very grateful.  The last few weeks, however, have brought  episodes of anxiety, almost like a feeling of doom, heart palpitations, tightness in the … Continue reading

Direct booking, busy and back in the gym.

There’s only one thing I can say about being on a roll so far in 2010.  KEEP IT COMING.  I’m working at not losing the energy and momentum I’ve come to.  Not sure exactly what to do but I do have faith that I can keep moving things along.  I’ve been averaging about 2 to 3 auditions the last couple of weeks.  Most recently I went on a Six Flags, Telenor (Swedish Bank), and Edwards(chocolate lava cake) audition.  I also went on a co-star audition for 90210 on February 1st.  Last Friday, Feb 5, I was getting that “feeling” I was going to hear from my agent regarding a booking.  I was totally thinking “90210″, but instead it was a … Continue reading

Type sheet for Lidia Ryan

Ok, I’ve become part of a weekly actor’s business meeting and I have a lot of work to do.  I did this “Type Sheet” in order to get a grasp of what types of roles I am good for, will book etc.  I’m going by what I have booked, what I enjoy booking, and what I tend to go out for on auditions.  I think I am in the right ball park and not pigeon holing myself too much, but this is a start I guess.  Any feedback or suggestions is greatly appreciated. Top five actors I see myself Patterning Tina Fey – 30 Rock Patricia Heaton – Everyone Love’s Raymond Calista Flockhart – Ally McBeal Audrey Hepburn – My … Continue reading

Swept Up! I've always loved Pizza…

After juggling so much the week of the Nature’s Path Bread commercial I got really run down and sick.  Monday through Thursday of the following week I only had my day job to deal with, so I got some rest, other than the Birthday Party I went to on Monday night where I perhaps drank a little more wine than I should have.  If anyone is prone to burning their candle on both ends, it is moi.  By Thursday morning, I knew I needed medication so I called the Dr and picked up a prescription.  Thursday night I got a call from ITA that I have 2 call backs for Papa Murphy’s Pizza on Friday.  That meant they wanted to … Continue reading

This is the kind of week I'm talking about!

Just a quick update on what’s going on. With my day job and acting job, it’s hard to find a moment to collect my thoughts and write about them.  So here’s the weekly activity scoop; Mon – Wardrobe fitting for Nature’s Path Organic Bread Tues – Nature’s Path Commercial Shoot Wed – Audition for a SAG short film and Careerbuilder.com Commercial Thursday – Audition for Papa Murphy’s Pizza Commercial Friday – Callback for SAG short film Thinking back on all the boohoo poor me posts from a few months ago, it all seems silly now, although it always seems so serious and doomsday in the moment.  There are always ebs and flows, busy and slow times.  I’m working on appreciating … Continue reading

Last Blog of the Year???

I’m back!  The holiday season has kicked my ass.  The play had it’s curtain call on Dec. 20th.  I’ve had a bunch of auditions, 2 callbacks for a Minnesota Lottery Commercial Voice Over but did not get it and I joined/subscribed to www.performertrack.com to help me keep track of everything.  It’s worth checking out.   Here’s the list of Auditions I’ve been on; Shark Navigator Vacuum,  Weight Watchers, Nature’s Path Organic Bread, Nickelodean Film Promo, Cable Vision, Lee County Tourism.  I am currently “on avail” for a Nature’s Path Organic Bread commercial after having the callback on Monday.  I believe yesterday’s Shark Navigator audition went pretty well also.  At the beginning of December I created for myself booking one more … Continue reading

Blog is back up after a Month. First Reblog catch up!

Posted 11/17/09 T minus 10 days and Counting! http://sierramadreplayhouse.org/_wsn/page3.html The Best Christmas Pageant Ever opening night is November 27th at the Sierra Madre Playhouse.  Rehearsals have been going pretty well.  Tonight we are doing a Run Through of Act One.  I was starting to get the pre-performace fears and jitters and self esteem issues that a lot of actors get before opening night.  The biggest fear is blanking on the lines, but that’s impossible if you know what your intention is and you are connected to the material.  I feel a lot better now because I was reminded last night that this is FUN, yeah FUN and PLAY, that’s why I do it.  Funny how I take myself too seriously … Continue reading

Magically Delicious!

A few weeks ago over a conversation with a friend I was expressing the desire to be in a theatrical production.  I felt joyful and inspired by the idea of getting to perform in a play, especially something funny.   I scoured Nowcasting and Actors Access on a daily basis for the following week looking for theater castings.  After complaining that theater castings in LA have come few and far between lately and that I hadn’t done any theater in almost two years I came across two breakdowns.  One was for a comedy play at the Write/Act Repertory in Hollywood and another for “The Best Christmas Pageant Ever” at the Sierra Madre Playhouse.  I submitted to both and I auditioned for … Continue reading

The Psychology of Acting

Really, someone should write a book about it.   There might be some behavior/thought patterns that a lot of actor’s share when they are auditioning.  I’m still trying to get over the ones that torture me sometimes.  I had an audition a couple days ago, a long wait open call sort of thing for a non-paid play.  Lots of nervous actors waiting around, some sitting on the couches and chairs in the waiting rooms, some standing in the hallway like statues and a couple pacing around outside rehearsing the material, which included me.  I can’t sit the entire waiting time, it drains my energy and feeds my anxiety.  I felt pretty confident, took some time to develop a character and soak … Continue reading
