Eyebrows drawn on crooked? Making molten lava cake and an audition for Eleventh Hour episode 112 “Pinocchio”

Photo shoot went pretty well last Thursday although my boyfriend pointed out my eyebrows were drawn on uneven by the make up artist.  I also noticed this during the photoshoot and said something, she said “eyebrows are sisters, not twins.”  So I trusted her opinion.   I noticed in some of the pictures after the shoot that they don’t even look they are related.  All I have to say is THANK GOD FOR PHOTOSHOP.   I sent a few samples from the shoot to my manager and she thinks they look great. Well, I guess that’s all that matters.  I’m waiting to get the 4×6’s from Snapfish and then will be mailing them to Mireille so she can pick out which ones she wants me to put up on Actors Access and LA Casting.  La Casting, WTF are you so expensive to add photos?

Last Saturday my boyfriend shot a cooking video for a Kraft contest, starring myself and his 5 year old son.   It went pretty well and was fun even though I woke up on the wrong side of the bed that morning! The final edited version should be done in the next couple days and I will post the link.

Yesterday Mireille got me an awesome audition at Felicia Fasano Casting for a CBS TV show called the Eleventh Hour.   I read for the part of Joan Hammer, a rich texan.   Shari was the reader and camera operator and was super nice!  The first take I did a slight southern accent and took my time.  I received an adjustment to pick up the pace and drop the accent.  So I did pick up the pace but I think I didn’t fully shake off the accent, at least in my overanalyzing mind that is what happened.  Shari said good job and thank you for coming in.  The tape is going straight to producers, including Jerry Bruckheimer, to be viewed.  An opportunity such as this is just so awesome and I am so very grateful for it.  I was thinking yesterday that I need to raise my game, get back into classes with Margie Haber, so I kick ass at every opportunity that comes my way.  Money is kind of holding me back right now, but I am going to make this a priority after the Holidays.

Audition for “The Pacific” Executive Producers Spielberg and Hanks – an example of circles coming closer to closing

In 2002 I received my SAG card by working on Catch Me If You Can.  I was an uncredited glorified photo double and featured extra.  Working with Spielberg was really great, what a cool dude.  I gave him a thank you card at the end of the shoot saying how working on that project made me feel so close to my dream.  6 years later, again closer to my dream, I am in Liberman/Patton casting auditioning for a small role in “The Pacific.”  That’s really f*cking cool.   I don’t know how my agent is doing it, but he’s getting me seen for some great stuff, and I am absolutely so greatful and excited about what’s coming up next and what I will be working on next.  The audition went well but seemed so quick it felt a little like my head was spinning afterwords, and now I’m trying not to think about it too much.  Liberman/Patton is a great office to be seen by.   Cristal Karge called me in, I saw her a long time ago at Actorsite when I was doing Casting Director Workshops, which was also circa 2002.  She said my face looked familiar, how awesome!  And there we have it, circles spinning and closing in on each other again and again.   The Pacific is scheduled to shoot the first couple weeks of December.   I want this, are you listening Universe?

Web Hosting for Microsoft, I can dig

Yesterday was a lovely day.  No traffic because of Veteran’s day and no wait my audition, so I was able to drive from Downtown to the valley and back during lunch time and still put in my 8 hours of work at my day job.  I had an audition for a Microsoft  Web Hosting project shooting in San Francisco on November 24th at ASG casting.  This is the first time I’ve been to this casting facility and it looks like they cast some pretty good projects. I think I made a good impression.  I put on my best web hosting performance and teleprompter reading efforts.  I don’t believe there are any call backs for this one, so I’ll cross my appendages.  This is the second Microsoft audition I’ve been to in the past few months.  Losing the other one was a real bummer because it shot in Hong Kong.  Come on Microsoft, you know I’d be a great face for you for Web Hosting.  I even own stock in your company!

Here’s some web hosting work I shot Monday night, Loan Modification Services for Movoxo.com.

I’m not intending this entry to be a pity party for myself, but rather a recommitment to the art and business of acting.  The last year has released sparks of hope and small results in comparison to what more successful actors are currently acheiving.   I am not in any way undervaluing the importance of every small step I take, nor the reality that sparks can create fire.  I’m giving up feeling sorry for myself that I have to reshuffle and recreate my approach at least once a year if not more often.  As a result of speaking to my manager Mireille and learning that there is an incongruency between the age I come across in photos and the age I appear to be on camera and at auditions,  I’m taking new pictures on November 20th.  Once again.  Getting feedback from Casting directors that “she’s too young looking” is nothing really to complain about.  Yes, I’ve spent thousands and thousands of dollars on pictures that don’t seem to work.  Melinda Kelly, photographer, this Thursday it is your chance.
